The Devil's Music
At the recreation center / there was a counselor someone knew / who brought in a tape of some rock songs / that he played backwards in the basement / for our youth group / just listening to that backwards music / was in itself a scary enough thing / but when we got to the part / where someone croaked / my sweet Satan / everyone jumped up and started shivering / those words blew though my soul / like they were a cold / metallic wind / and I made a vow in my heart that night / that I’d never listen / to rock and roll music again / that lasted all of a month or so / until after a while I just got bored / and went back to listening to the Devil’s music / the whole time looking over my shoulder / for the Lord.
